IoT And B2B
The B2B segment of IoT is starting to develop and shows a wide range of adoption and implementation, primarily based on the industry and application. For example, Kimball Office is one company that is using IOT in numerous ways. Mike Wagner, President, explains the various ways that they are realizing the benefits of IoT: “The applications we’ve found to work well for our operations include coordinating products through manufacturing, such as product-to-robotic interaction, material handling, and preventive maintenance for critical equipment within operations.”
He also noted that the company has co-developed a Kimball Office mobile app with ShareDesk. “The app helps connect people and things in our customers’ office environment. This same mobile platform is being rolled out to our furniture showrooms, which will track product interaction and assist our designers with better layout designs for future showroom planning. These applications help facility managers to improve workplace layouts, CFOs to ensure optimization of their assets, and HR to boost employee effectiveness and morale.”
Other industries are starting to feel the impact of IoT, according to Simon Pearce, Founder of Fabric Branding. “I think the automotive industry is a huge early adopter of IoT and IoT-enabling technologies with driverless cars just due to the sheer complexity of the tasks they are undertaking. Although this is not pure IoT since the cars are being guided by onboard computers, the onboard computers do leverage the same technology as IoT.”
